| 1. WHAT IS
CONNECTORWARE IMPORT FOR CC:MAIL? |
|
|
|
| Transend
ConnectorWare IMPORT for cc:Mail is a utility for importing
messages from cc:Mail ARCHIVES (.cca files), FOLDERS (Inbox,
Drafts Folder, Message Log and other Folders) and BULLETIN
BOARDS into Microsoft Outlook/Exchange folders (.pst and .mdb
files) or other MAPI-compliant message stores. It also imports
selected cc:Mail address book items, including INTERNET
ADDRESSES from privdir.ini, all addresses from the cc:Mail 8.x
PERSONAL ADDRESS BOOK and PERSONAL MAILING LISTS into the
Outlook/Exchange Personal Address Book or Contacts Folder. |
| |
| NOTE: Demo versions
are restricted to importing three messages per folder and three
address book items. You can convert the demo version to the full
version (eliminating the restrictions) by selecting "FULL
VERSION" on the dialog that appears prior to the main screen and
following the instructions. (See 6. CONVERTING THE DEMO VERSION
TO A FULL VERSION and 7. VOLUME LICENSES) |

| |
| 2. NEW FEATURES |
|
|
|
| Version 4.3 |
| |
| Improvements of
Version 4.3 since Version 4.2.1 include: |
| |
- Improvements in converting Private Distribution Lists.
- Improvements in handling attachments with long file
names.
- Improvements in handling archives conversions.
|
| Version 4.2.1 |
| |
| Improvements of
Version 4.2.1 since Version 4.2 include: |
| |
- Earlier versions did not automatically detect the
archives listed in the registry for cc:Mail Release 8.4
clients, but it did detect them for cc:Mail Release 8.2
clients. This version automatically detects the archives
listed in the registry for both the cc:Mail Release 8.4 and
8.2 clients.
|
| Version 4.2: |
| |
| New features and
improvements of Version 4.2 since Version 4.1 include: |
| |
- Improvements in handling message file attachments with
long file names. The names of file attachments with long
file names and spaces in the names are maintained. This
keeps the association with the application so users can
simply click on the attachment to launch the application.
- Support of cc:Mail export32.exe for improved performance
and reliability.
- Improved handling of multiple users who share a PC and
differentiating between a user with both a LAN and Mobile
logon setting.
- Improved operation on Windows 2000 and with Exchange
2000.
- A warning message will not be displayed if there is no
Personal Address Book in the Outlook profile.
|
| Version 4.1: |
| |
| Major new features
of Version 4.1 since Version 4.0 include: |
| |
- Optimized to better support new capabilities of Outlook
2000.
- cc:Mail Private Mail Lists (PML) can now be imported
into the Outlook 2000 Contacts Folder as well as the
Personal Address Book. For Outlook 97/98, PMLs are always
imported to the Outlook Personal Address Book since Outlook
97/98 does not support distribution lists in the Contacts
Folders. The program automatically detects the version of
Outlook and prompts the user accordingly in both GUI and
batch modes.
- The path to the privdir.ini file (for importing Private
Internet Addresses) can now be specified in batch mode and
browsed for in GUI mode. Previous versions relied on
information in the win.ini to find the user's privdir.ini
file. This is particularly useful if the user's PC does not
have a cc:Mail section in the win.ini.
- When importing addresses to the Outlook Contacts Folder
it no longer matters whether Outlook is running or not.
Previous versions were very slow unless Outlook was running.
|
| Version 4.0: |
| |
| Major new features
of Version 4.0 since Version 3.1 include: |
| |
- Addresses can be imported from the cc:Mail Personal
Address Book, (supported by cc:Mail R8.x) as well as from
the privdir.ini file.
- Addresses can be imported directly into the Outlook
Contacts Folder or the Outlook Personal Address Book.
- cc:Mail 8.x nested folders (folders within folders) are
imported to Outlook maintaining the nested subfolder
structure.
- Command line batch mode has been expanded to support
importing the cc:Mail Personal Address Book and providing
the option to import to the Outlook Contacts Folder or
Personal Address Book. This enables an identical batch file
shortcut to be sent to all users. They would simply click on
the shortcut to import all their cc:Mail data. Batch mode
now supports importing cc:Mail Archives, Folders, Private
Mail Lists, Private Internet Addresses from privdir.ini, and
the cc:Mail Personal Address Book. (See batch.txt for more
information).
- The specified user's archives are automatically
displayed for cc:Mail R8.x users based on information in the
registry as well as the wmail.ini file. (Previous versions
of cc:Mail used the wmail.ini file to list the archives.)
|
| Version 3.1: |
| |
| Major new features
of Version 3.1 since Version 3.0 include: |
| |
- The specified user's archives are automatically
displayed. There's no need for the user to search for
archives.
- Command line batch mode has been expanded to support
Archives, Folders, Private Mail Lists and Private Internet
Addresses. This enables an identical batch file shortcut to
be sent to all users. They would simply click on the
shortcut to import all their cc:Mail data. (See batch.txt
for more information)
- New cc:Mail support files are included (VIM dlls and
export.exe) that work with all versions of cc:Mail,
including Release 8.3.
- Folder import has been enhanced to support cc:Mail DB8
Sent, Drafts and Trash folders.
- Archive import has been enhanced to handle corrupted
archives more reliably.
- Deleted messages in an archive are not imported. (Unlike
earlier cc:Mail clients, the R8 client allows messages in an
archive to "appear" to be deleted. But, deleted messages
actually remain in the .cca file, they just can't be viewed
with the cc:Mail client.)
|
| Version 3.0: |
| |
| Major new features
of Version 3.0 since Version 2.1 include: |
| |
- Selected cc:Mail Address Book items can now be imported
into the the Outlook/Exchange Personal Address
Book...specifically:
- Private Internet addresses from the user's cc:Mail
privdir.ini file
- cc:Mail Private Mail Lists
- An "Import Options" button is added to allow users to:
- Select "address conversions" for imported messages and
addresses imported from the cc:Mail address book that are
compatible with formats required by either (i) Exchange
server or (ii) cc:Mail post office. The default is Exchange
server address formats.
- Select "date formats" on imported messages that match
international date formats on cc:Mail messages. The default
is mm/dd/yy.
- When importing Folders or Address Book items from
cc:Mail, the user's cc:Mail User Name and Post Office path
is automatically displayed with a pull down option to select
alternate user names. Users may also type in the appropriate
text. This is similar to the cc:Mail client.
- Import processes (including archive, folder, bulletin
board and address book imports) are appended to the log file
and the log is not deleted when the utility is exited. This
enables one log file to provide a comprehensive record of
imported items. A "Delete log" button is added if the user
wants to delete the log file.
- cc:Mail export.exe errors are identified and entered
into the log.
- Disk full errors are identified and entered into the
log.
- Archive import has been enhanced to handle corrupted
archives more reliably.
|
| Version 2.1: |
| |
| Transend's
ConnectorWare 2.0 MAPI service for cc:Mail and the version
bundled in Microsoft Outlook (Microsoft Outlook Support for
Lotus cc:Mail) include the capability for importing cc:Mail
Folders and Bulletin Boards. This feature is available from the
Tools/cc:Mail Service Tools menu of Microsoft Outlook and
Exchange. The following enhancements to this capability have
been incorporated in the "stand-alone" ConnectorWare IMPORT
utility: |
| |
- You can now select the Outlook/Exchange destination
profile and folders to which cc:Mail messages will be
imported. Previous versions imported only to the default
folders (the folders new mail is delivered to).
- cc:Mail ARCHIVES (.cca files) can now be imported in
addition to FOLDERS and BULLETIN BOARDS.
- A log text file is now generated which shows the results
of an import process, including date of the import,
destination profile/folders, archive, folder or bulletin
board name and each message imported by subject. Errors are
also noted.

| 3. REQUIREMENTS |
|
|
|
| Minimum Hardware
Requirements: |
| |
| Transend
ConnectorWare IMPORT for cc:Mail minimum hardware requirements
are the same as Microsoft Outlook/Exchange. Import runs on a
minimum of 6 MB of RAM, and 10 MB of hard disk space (for the
temporary files). However, it is recommended that you have at
least 8 MB of RAM for good performance. 360k of available
conventional memory is also required. |
| |
| Software
Requirements: |
| |
- Transend ConnectorWare IMPORT for cc:Mail relies on
Lotus VIM32 DLLs included with the download from Transend.
- Transend ConnectorWare IMPORT for cc:Mail requires about
50 bytes of free environment space to set its variables. In
rare cases a system may not have enough free environment
space, and the program will display an error message.
|
| To specify the
environment size: |
| |
| (1) In your
CONFIG.SYS file, add this line: SHELL=COMMAND /E:nnnn where nnnn
is the initial environment size in bytes. |
| |
| NOTE: You need to
shut down and restart your computer for the changes in
config.sys to take effect. |
| |
| (2) An alternate
method to change the environment size without having to reboot
the system is to modify the memory property of the export.pif
file. Run Microsoft Windows Explorer, locate the export.pif file
in the Windows directory (it may be listed as "Export" without
the ".pif" extension, and it should have a DOS icon), highlight
it and click the right mouse button, select the properties
command from the menu, select the memory tab, and increase the
initial environment size to the next available size. |
| |
| NOTE: Do not
change anything else in the export.pif file. Especially leave
"Close on Exit" selected (checked). Unselecting "Close on Exit"
WILL cause your SYSTEM TO HALT whenever cwimport is executed. |
| |
| NOTE: The
following "Configuration Error..." message is often misleading: |
| |
| "Configuration
Error: This system does not have the necessary resources to
perform the requested import..." is often misleading and can
mean that a corrupted message could not be imported or a folder
name has characters that are not supported (see 8. KNOWN
PROBLEMS & ISSUES). Check the last message in the last folder to
be imported (if it got that far) -- there may be no message body
or some other problem. You may need to delete this message using
the cc:Mail client and then try importing again to import the
remaining messages. |

| |
| 4. INSTALLATION |
|
|
|
| Trial and Purchase
Versions: |
| |
| For trial and
purchase versions, just download the zipped program file to an
empty directory and unzip the file following the instructions
that were emailed to you. For the trial version, click setup.exe
and follow the on-screen directions. For the purchase version,
there is no setup.exe. To run both versions, see instructions
below. |
| |
| TOP |
| |
| 5. TO RUN THE
UTILITY |
|
|
|
| To run in an
interactive mode: |
| |
| Click the shortcut
on the desktop or click cwimport.exe in the directory where you
installed the utility (the default directory is: Program
Files/Transend/ccMail Import) and follow the on-screen
instructions. Interactive mode enables you to select individual
items for importing. |
| |
| To run from a
command line batch file: |
| |
| To import all
cc:Mail items, except bulletin boards, in one process (i.e. all
archives, folders, addresses and distribution lists), just click
the file ImpAll.bat and follow the prompts. This simple batch
file can be modified to suit individual needs based on
instructions in batch.txt. |
| |
| NOTE: For the
trial version, a demo message will be displayed after each
import process. This does not occur with the full version. |
| |
| To run from a
network drive (server): |
| |
| The utility does not
need to be installed on each user's PC. It can be run from a
network drive in GUI or batch modes. In batch mode, no user
specific information is required in the batch file. This enables
an identical batch file to be created for all users. A shortcut
to the batch file can be sent to all target PCs. Simply clicking
the shortcut will import all cc:Mail data for the user. |
| |
| NOTE: The
shortcut must reference the batch file using a mapped drive. |

| |
| 6. KNOWN PROBLEMS
& ISSUES |
|
|
|
- Draft messages imported from cc:Mail have the "Delivery
receipt requested" and "Read receipt requested" set as the
default properties.
- When importing FOLDER messages from a cc:Mail DB6 post
office, the user's name is added as the first name in the
recipient list. This problem does not occur with DB8 post
offices.
- When messages are imported into the Exchange Server
message store (on certain versions of Exchange Server), the
dates of the messages get changed to the current date.
Correct message dates are maintained when messages are
imported into Personal Folders (.pst message store).
- "Configuration Error: This system does not have the
necessary resources to perform the requested import..." is
often misleading and can mean that a corrupted message could
not be imported. Check the last message in the last folder
to be imported -- there may be no message body. You may need
to delete this message using the cc:Mail client and then try
importing again to import the remaining messages.
- There are four characters in a folder or bulletin board
name that cause an error since these are used as parameters
on the DOS commandline for the call to export.exe:
/ (with a space before and after)
" (quote)
, (comma with a space after)
a space after a folder name
If these characters are in a folder name, change the name to
eliminate them using the cc:Mail client before importing.
- "Configuration Error: This system does not have the
necessary resources to perform the requested import..." will
sometimes occur upon first use of the Folder or Bulletin
Board import function. If this happens, restart the utility
and try again. You should not get this error the second time
unless there is some other problem.
- When importing folders or bulletin boards, the cc:Mail
post office user account must be set up with a password,
otherwise an error message will appear. To import folders or
bulletin boards you must log-in with a "user name" and
password. If you log-in with a "post office name" and
password you will receive an error.
- In some situations the cc:Mail post office directory
path must be limited to directories with 8 or less
characters in the name. Check this if you get the
"Configuration Error..." message when trying to import
folders.
- Importing Private Mail Lists with list names greater
than 8 characters may fail. If this does fail, rename the
list with the cc:Mail client to a name with 8 or less
characters.
- If a user has named certain personal folders in the
cc:Mail client the same name as cc:Mail special folders
(e.g. Inbox, Message Log, etc.) there may be unpredictable
results. For example, if there is a user- named folder
"Inbox" in addition to the system Inbox folder, the system
Inbox will be imported twice and the user-named "Inbox"
folder will not be imported.
- When importing Private Mail Lists into the Contacts
Folder, individual contacts will be created for each member
of a Private Mail Lists. This is a requirement of Outlook.
- When importing Private Internet Addresses or cc:Mail
Personal Address Books into the Contacts Folder there is no
duplicate checking. However, when importing Private Mail
Lists into the Contacts Folder duplicates are eliminated for
individual addresses that may be included in multiple
Private Mail Lists.
- When importing addresses, it's best if the Outlook
setting "Keep personal addresses in" is set to Contacts if
you are importing to Contacts or Personal Address Book if
you are importing to the Personal Address Book. This option
can be set in Outlook under Tools/Services/Addressing Tab.
