TRANSEND MIGRATOR FORENSIC EDITION 10.5certified for windows 7

Converts From All Email Systems/Clients to Formats for eDiscovery & Compliance

Messages/Folders • Attachments • Archives • Address Books • Calendars • Tasks

Transend Migrator Forensic Edition, email conversion, ediscovery, convert emailTransend Migrator Forensic Edition is similar to the standard edition but is licensed solely for the conversion of email data for legal discovery (eDiscovery) and compliance purposes. One license per workstation allows the conversion of an unlimited number of data files/mailboxes. This license is not for the migration of user mailboxes to another email system or archive system.

As with the standard Transend Migrator, the Forensic Edition converts email data from virtually all legacy and leading edge email systems and clients; however, it converts data to formats required for eDiscovery and compliance. Supported target formats include Outlook PST, Notes NSF, PDF, MSG, JPEG, TIFF and other formats. The Forensic Edition also provides deduplication and searching capabilities to limit unnecessary data conversion. As with the standard edition, it contains an intuitive interface that makes it easy to install and use. End users and technicians are able to convert a single user account or thousands of accounts at once in batch mode from a central location. For those who prefer, the Forensic Edition also supports batch mode conversion via command line.

  • Used by leading law firms, eDiscovery consultants, financial institutions and government agencies, including FBI, SEC, NASD, Deloitte & Touche, KPMG
  • Over 15 million mailboxes converted

Easy to Use Interface
The Transend Migrator Forensic Edition interface is extremely intuitive - yet powerful, flexible and customizable. It is designed to provide a positive conversion experience for both end users converting a single mailbox and technicians converting multiple mailboxes in batch mode.

Supported Messaging Systems
Law firms and eDiscovery shops have customers who work with a wide variety of messaging systems, yet often to need to produce data in a different format. With Transend Migrator Forensic Edition, one utility is used to support the conversion from virtually all Email systems and clients, including Microsoft Outlook/Exchange, Lotus Notes/Domino, Novell GroupWise, IMAP, and many more. Supported target formats include Outlook PST, Notes NSF, PDF, MSG, JPEG, TIFF and other formats.

Supported Data Types
One utility converts all email data types in one process -- Messages, Address Books, Calendars and Task/To Do items.

Data Integrity Maintained
It is no secret that data fidelity is critical to eDiscovery and compliance. With Transend Migrator Forensic Edition, original message data, including metadata, is completely maintained in the target system, which is critical for maintaining optimal data fidelity. Additionally, source data is not compromised in any way - it's left in the same form post-conversion as it was pre-conversion.

  • Source folder structure is maintained in the target format
  • Message attachments are converted and maintained with their messages in the target format
  • Imbedded images are maintained with their messages in the target format
  • Converts server mailboxes, archives and local mail files directly to server mailboxes or local files in the target format
  • Converts individual folders or entire folder list in one process

Automate the Conversion of Multiple Mailboxes
Converting multiple mailboxes in Batch Mode has never been easier. Users can quickly and easily configure and perform a batch conversion all within the same interface. It's as easy as simply importing a file with user mailbox information prior to executing a batch conversion.

Flexibility Allows for Customization on the Fly
Transend Migrator Forensic Edition is the most flexible and customizable tool on the market. With an array of custom options, users can easily alter the default behavior to meet their specific needs. By selecting specific custom options, users can apply criteria that filters data by type, data size, date ranges or set quotas on the amount of data converted per mailbox.

  • Convert all message folders or individual folders
  • Convert a subset of messages that meet a certain criteria
  • Limit the attachment size for conversion
  • Convert only those messages that fall within a certain date range
  • Convert all Calendar events or only entries that fall within a specific date range

Conversion Management
Transend Migrator Forensic Edition allows for the management of the entire conversion project from within the application. Users can schedule a conversion for a later time, pause and restart a conversion, and monitor the real-time status of the conversion (mailbox by mailbox) via the Conversion Monitor. Transend Migrator Forensic Edition has the ability to act as an end-user client-based conversion utility, or a centralized conversion management system that facilitates the entire conversion process from a central location.

Command Line Processing
While Transend Migrator Forensic Edition no longer requires that users run batch mode via command line only, the functionality still remains. For those who prefer, batch conversions can be automated via command line to run in virtually any environment or specialized situation.

Transend Migrator Forensic Edition contains a rich set of features that make up the most powerful, flexible and customizable legal discovery conversion tool on the market. While the full list of features are described in more detail in the White Papers and Help File, below are some of the more commonly used features:

Deduplication
Transend Migrator Forensic Edition includes the ability to remove duplicate email messages. Duplicate email messages are determined by using the MD5 hash algorithm. The MD5 hash creates a unique mathematical value by analyzing certain properties of the email message, including message body, subject, date, sender, recipient list, attachment header and attachment data. All or a subset of these fields can be included in the MD5 hash value. Through these fields, Transend Migrator Forensic Edition is able to determine which messages are duplicate or unique.

Content Based Searching & Message Culling
A simple text search feature searches through messages and attachments, outputting only the items matching search terms. It finds and converts messages based upon the header metadata, message content, attachment name, or attachment content.

Selecting Specific Folders for Conversion
By default Transend Migrator Forensic Edition converts all folders in the source email mailbox. However, users can choose to convert only specific folders, or exclude specific folders from their conversion.

Concurrent Conversions
Convert more than one account at a time with Concurrent Migrations. During a batch process, Transend Migrator Forensic Edition will convert each account in entry order. It starts at the top and works through the list until the list is complete. By increasing the number of Concurrent Migrations, a significant increase in conversion throughput is achieved.

Conversion Monitor
The Conversion Monitor displays the real-time status of all user mailboxes as they are converted. The Conversion Monitor is a multi-threaded process, which means that multiple accounts can be converted at the same time if the email systems support concurrent conversions.

Schedule Migration
Users may schedule a conversion to begin at a later time by setting the start time on the Conversion Schedule screen. Conversions performed later in the evening generally receive optimal performance, bandwidth, and no interruption. If there are other processes that must begin while the conversion is running then users may also pause the conversion, and continue after the processes are complete.

Custom Options
Hundreds of Custom Options allow the default behavior of Transend Migrator Forensic Edition to be altered. General options and email system-specific options allow customization to any particular conversion scenario.

Language Translation
Transend Migrator Forensic Edition automatically determines what type of character set conversion is necessary.

Command Line Processing
While Transend Migrator Forensic Edition no longer requires that users run batch mode via command line only, the functionality still remains. For those who prefer, batch conversions can be automated via command line to run in virtually any environment or specialized situation.

Reporting
Conversion reports in XML format will be created after each run, and they can be viewed and saved with Microsoft Excel. Custom Options are available to increase or decrease the level of detail captured in reports.

The default detail contained within the XML Report contains the following information:

  • User ID
  • Status
  • Database / User
  • Time Started
  • Time Ended
  • Elapsed Time
  • Folder Count
  • Email Count
  • Address Count
  • Calendar Count
  • Task Count
  • Attachment Count
  • Skipped Entries
  • Data Rate (megabytes per hour)

Enhanced Logging
Transend Migrator will create a master log file that contains detailed information about the migration session. User specific log files will also be created that contain detailed information about a specific user migration, including errors that may have occurred. The log files are HTML and are viewable in an Internet browser. The option to create text based log files is also available.

Transend Migrator White Papers discuss various aspects of preparing messaging platforms for conversion, as well as provide detail about conversions between specific email systems and formats. They provide a conceptual description of best practices and detailed step-by-step instructions of how to convert data from beginning to end.

The context sensitive Help File is the most comprehensive document that contains a complete overview of the different features and functionality of Transend Migrator Forensic Edition.
